Techniques for extraction of foraminifers and ostracodes from sediment samples. [F C Thomas; M G Murney; Bedford Institute of Oceanography.] -- Several methods of disaggregating sediment samples for analysis of shelly microfossils, such as foraminifers and ostracodes, are regularly used at the Atlantic Geoscience Centre, Bedford Institute of.

Two methods for retrieving foraminifera from strongly, lithified carbonates (Armine-O and cold-disaggregation with acetic acid) were tested on the same sample of Oxfordian spongiolithic limestone. (i) Gravity separation techniques: use a gravity difference between particles within a residue.

The procedure’s success is considerably improved by using a liquid with a specific gravity (S.G.) value between the two main mineralogical components to be separated.

These techniques are most successful with sand grade or fine sand grade : Owen R. Green. The taxonomy is modernized and updated for Jurassic planktonic foraminifera using all available literature and stratigraphic series of sediment samples from Canada, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Poland, Lithuania, Russia and Dagestan.
